This is beautiful Koru is carved from Kahurangi Greenstone.
Koru- Literally meaning ‘curl’, these taonga depict an unfurling fern frond. In Māori culture, the young shoots of the fern symbolise new life, growth and rejuvenation.
Kahurangi is the rarest variety of pounamu. It is highly translucent and often comes in vivid shades of green. Kahurangi is named after the clearness of the sky. Kahurangi pounamu is particularly esteemed by Māori.
