A beautiful Niho pounamu, carved out of stunning deep green Pounamu with flecks of lighter green/white.
The Niho Pounamu or "tooth pounamu" represents strength, leadership and resilience. The tooth shape is assocated with two animals significant to the Māori culture, the whale and the shark. Niho (tooth) from whales and sharks where highly prized and often worn as adornments carrying the mana of the animal.
Deane Moreton's family has been involved in the New Zealand greenstone industry since the early 1970's. Te Wahi Pounamu brought to fruition his vision of creating authentic pounamu carvings whilst providing the end-holder with the history of each piece.
