Purerehua - Puhoro
Revolution Aotearoa

Traditionally the Purerehua had both practical and ceremonial uses. Unique and captivating, the Purerehua (Bull Roarer) produces a deep and resonant sound that is both powerful and haunting. It was often used for communication over long distances and had spiritual significance when used in various rituals and ceremonies. When spun around, it creates a low-pitched hum that reverberates through the air, filling the space with a primal energy that is both mesmerizing and invigorating. It is not only a musical instrument but also a cultural artifact.
Featuring an engraved Māori puhoro design by Wiremu Barriball on one side. The puhoro design represents the ripples and swirls created from a paddle strike as it pushes waka (canoe) through the water representing agility, speed and resilience.
